Howlin' Wolf asked me to keep the blues going and that's what I've been doing for almost 60 years now. I'm 76 yrs. young and I still think the blues is alright. The blues has served me well and because of it I have made many friends all over the world.
Annually the Fernando Jones Blues Camp kicks in high gear and kids from around the country come to Chicago to learn more about the blues. Time spent at the camp lets me know I'm on the right track..the kids love it and so do I. We owe it to the next generation of musicians to keeps the blues an important part of our country's rich history.
Starting January, 2013 Blues Kids of America will name a scholarship in my honor. The Eddie Shaw Scholarship Fund is a scholarship for future saxophone players. Thru Blues Kids of America, we will annually sponsor young saxophone players and give them the opportunity to come to Chicago and learn more about the blues. My first intro to the sax was in school and now music programs all across the country are being eliminated. It is important that we keep our youth excited and engaged about music.
The Wolf passed it on to me and now I'm passing it on to you. Help keep the blues alive and kicking by making a donation today. Your contributions are tax deductible and that's good. The benefit it will bring to the next generation of blues lovers is even better.
